About
My name is David Markham and I am the President of C.M. Peletz Co.
C.M. Peletz Co. is a San Francisco Bay Area general building contractor specializing in the construction of extremely high-quality, high-degree-of-difficulty residential and commercial buildings. We have offices in San Jose and San Francisco and build projects from Marin County to Carmel.
I am a sixth-generation Californian raising a family in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I attended public schools where I played high school football and discovered a love of mathematics and drafting, both precursors to my career. I graduated from Cal State University at Chico with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management in 1985.
My first position post college was working as an assistant to the Owner’s Representative in the construction of a co-generation facility built by Bechtel for Gilroy Foods Co. in Gilroy, California. Most of my job function was to create steam and power generation models using a new technology at the time: the computerized spreadsheet. I became quite proficient at Lotus 123 and that skill served me very well going forward.
Because I was most interested in operating a general building contracting company I set out to find a company to work for and learn from. Though I had offers from several larger Bay Area firms to enter their training programs, I accepted a project manager position at a smaller firm with an impeccable reputation; C.M. Peletz Co. The company was founded by Cyril “CY” Peletz in 1948, a California native noted for his integrity.
As the junior project manager I was responsible for tenant improvement work and assisting on larger projects. I introduced new technology to the company as it became available. Developing customized spreadsheets and IT solutions for the myriad construction forms and project management functions became of vital importance to the company in the rapidly changing computerized world.
I continued to manage projects for the firm until promotion to V.P. of Operations in 1994. Notable projects along the way included The Spanish Bay Townhouses in Pebble Beach, The Cornerstone, a retail complex in Los Gatos, and several high-end residential projects on the Peninsula. All of our contracts were acquired on a negotiated basis.
In July of 2002, I purchased the company from Cy Peletz in an all-cash deal leaving me as sole share holder of this privately-held company. Since that time, we have continued to service existing clients both residential and commercial with a concentration on peerless service. We continue to negotiate all of our projects. Our marketing efforts have shifted to some extent to pursing exclusively the very highest quality projects of the residential market. Due to my ability to retain and manage top-flight project management personnel as well as my experience in servicing the most discerning of clientele, C.M. Peletz Co. is positioned to excel going forward. Because clients of commercial buildings also recognize the importance of having a highly experienced, ethical contractor on their team, we also continue to service both commercial and residential clients in all sorts of building projects.
